It has been a few months since I last posted a personal blog, and it is because life is busy. Being married with three children and running my own business, I have had a full plate. But, I must say my heart is even more full and I am happy to share some this thought that has been on my mind for the past few months. I would love to hear your feedback as well.
I have had the pleasure of mentoring others for many years of during my short career as a physical therapist and I never realized how much I truly enjoyed being able to help others grow until recently. I absolutely blossom knowing that I have the opportunity to lend a helping hand and help guide others to making decisions towards their goals. Because of this, some of you may know that I recently decided to formally launch mentoring and coaching services for physical therapists who are looking to grow professionally. Launching these programs has been a wonderful opportunity for myself to grow as well. I have had the pleasure of helping others improve accountability towards accomplishing and sustaining goals, and helping others improve upon recognized vulnerabilities.
In the midst of all of this, I have learned the importance of the SOS call and the pitfalls that exist with the SOS call as well. In today’s fast-paced world, we often find ourselves facing urgent challenges and needing immediate support. This is where SOS coaching calls can be a valuable resource. Designed to provide prompt assistance and guidance, SOS coaching calls offer a convenient solution to address immediate problems. However, like any coaching approach, there are both pros and cons to consider. In this blog post, I will delve into the advantages and considerations of SOS coaching calls. Hopefully this will allow you to make an informed decision about their suitability for your specific needs.
Pros of SOS Coaching Calls:
- Immediate Assistance: One of the most significant advantages of SOS coaching calls is the ability to receive support about a particular concern in a relatively quick manner. Whether you’re facing a critical decision, feeling overwhelmed, or dealing with a pressing challenge, SOS coaching calls allow you to access guidance hastily.
- Targeted Problem-Solving: SOS coaching calls are focused on specific issues or challenges. With limited time available, the coach helps you identify the core problem, explore alternative perspectives, and guide you towards practical solutions. This targeted approach can lead to quick problem resolution.
- Time Efficiency: If you have a busy schedule, SOS coaching calls offer a time-efficient solution. Unlike longer coaching engagements, these calls are typically shorter in duration, enabling you to receive valuable support without extensive time commitments.
Cons of SOS Coaching Calls:
- Limited Depth of Exploration: Due to their shorter duration, SOS coaching calls may not allow for in-depth exploration of complex or multifaceted issues. They are better suited for immediate problem-solving rather than comprehensive personal or professional development. To be clear most issues may benefit temporarily from a quick fix, but often to obtain a lasting solution time needs to be devoted to getting to the root of the cause.
- Emotional Support: While SOS coaching calls provide guidance and practical solutions, they may not offer the same level of emotional support as longer-term coaching relationships. If ongoing emotional support is crucial to your needs, a more extended coaching engagement might be more appropriate.
- Relationship Building: Building a strong rapport with your coach often takes time. SOS coaching calls may not provide ample opportunity to establish a deep connection or develop a long-term coaching relationship. If you value relationship-building, consider a more extended coaching arrangement.
- Limited Follow-up and Accountability: As SOS coaching calls primarily focus on immediate challenges, follow-up and ongoing accountability may be limited. If you prefer continued support to ensure the implementation of action plans, a longer-term coaching engagement could be more suitable. Having a scheduled check-up is advantageous for growth.
So, what does all this mean?
By weighing the pros and cons discussed in this blog post, I hope you can make an informed decision about whether SOS coaching calls align with your specific needs and goals. Remember, the suitability of this coaching approach depends on the nature of your challenges and preferences. If you require immediate assistance and are willing to trade off long-term relationship building, SOS coaching calls can be highly effective in providing the support you need.
Ultimately, finding the right coaching approach is about understanding your needs and finding a coaching style that complements your goals.
Until next time, CIAO! 🙂
